Goodbye Cristina Yang

After 10 seasons, there are few TV shows I enjoy more than Grey’s Anatomy; and of all the twisted characters on Grey’s, Dr. Cristina Yang holds the biggest place in my heart. She is smart, sarcastic, damaged, blunt, and generally amazing. There are parts of Sandra Oh’s character that resonate deeply with me. There are lines that seem to perfectly fit my own thoughts. There are moments when I will shout out the screen (and/or text a friend) “Oh.My.God. That’s me!”

So, as the world says goodbye to Cristina on tonight’s finale, it will strangely be like I’m saying goodbye to a part of myself.

With that being said, here are some of the reasons I love Cristina Yang…my (fictional) person.

Cristina Yang is a fantastic friend.

Sure, she and Meredith had their issues, but at the end of the day…they are there for each other.

Cristina Yang always speaks her mind.

Really, sometimes..nobody cares. And Cristina isn’t afraid to let you know that.

Cristina Yang will make you demand more of yourself.

Because “good” is not good enough for her, and it shouldn’t be for you either. Get your life together!

Cristina Yang isn’t overly emotional, and she doesn’t want to talk about it.

She keeps her emotions hidden. She doesn’t want to chat about her problems and have a good cry.

Cristina Yang is damaged.

Cristina doesn’t usually cry, but when she does….man! Her breakdowns make her human.

Cristina Yang understands the importance of alcohol.

Seriously, there are certain occasions in life when wine (or tequila) is necessary.

Cristina Yang knows that brains are way more important than beauty.

Take note guys.

The most important thing I learned from Cristina: Sometimes, you need to just “Shut Up!”

And “Dance It Out!”

Goodbye Cristina Yang. Thursday nights won’t be the same without you.

I got into Grey’s relatively late, but caught up on past seasons on Netflix. The thing that always made me smile was the bond Yang and Grey had. It mirrors the way most friends relationships go. And if we all don’t have “a person,” we need to get one. It makes life better.
That said, the finale was sad but echoes why Shonda Rimes continues to get what will bring in new viewers and keep the old ones.

Totally agree with you on all of that Jason! The finale was the perfect goodbye for Cristina and surprisingly all the other characters faired pretty well too (aka…no one died).
